The Intel powered Macs and iLife got the lion's share of the MWSF2006 keynote and iWork only got a few slides showing improvements to Keynote and Pages got so I am hoping iWork (new spreadsheet app and a very improved Pages) gets some good airtime at MWSF2007.

intel offers better chips for the same price. and why releasing a thurion notebook? it's way slower and consumes more power.

the one and only possibility for me is an super-beginner notebook with a weak chip.

Weird, I don't know anyone who owns a truck. But that's irrelevant anyway. You can't really think that there are as many trucks as there are automobiles around. :)

Apparently you've never been to Calgary...

sometimes its not the amount that was stolen but what was stolen. I had an iPod stolen from me and it was awful because of what it was. I still havent replaced it because I dont see that getting another one is worth the hastle of the first one.

oh btw..a hint...if you go to an apple store and buy a giftcard for the amount you need online...then you can use the gift card..get free shipping...plus get your 100 bucks off on a macbook w/ educatoinal discount and have no tax...

so you really end up saving 200 bucks....thats what im doing just a heads up

I'm really tired of hearing this. First of all, people are not forced to buy from the iTMS, CDs still exist.

Second, the songs can be played on a Mac computer with iTunes, a Windows computer with iTunes, iPods. They can also be burned to an audio CD which can be played on millions of devices.

    How is that "iPod-only"?!

To use on other devices requires you to have to go through a lot of unnecessary and time consuming hoops.

DRM should be unified - one DRM standard for ALL devices.

Your point? Do you deny General Lee surrendered on this date in 1865?

This was an important victory for the US.

Actually it looks like you are being sarcastic. LOL

Technically the Confederacy wasn't defeated until a month later, and even then forces still fought because of how slow news traveled :p, but yea, Lee's surrender was basically the end.

Actually, shooting up close with a wide-angle lens will give you exactly that distortion. Here is a photo I just took of a REAL iPhone with a 17mm lens. Sorry about the fuzziness - handheld and did not use a flash:

    http://www.marulla.com/files/perspective.jpg

So I don't think text in the 3rd photo is skewed. That being said, I agree it's a fake.

What gives the bad impression is that, since is a 3D rendering, it doesn't have lens distortion (because the guy "forgot" about it). Real lenses always gives you some barrel distortion because they are curved, and the standard camera in a 3D software is always just straight 3 point perspective. When you put it in an angle that gives too much perspective it looks strange.

Specially the first image, is a good 3D, but is not realistic enough to be perceived as a photo because of:

    1- Lack of lens distortion
2- Very linear noise, obviously applied.
    3- Un-natural light
4- Not so realistic dynamic range and exposure
5- Shadows are too smooth for that kind of flash-light
    6- Light is too uniform
7- The model is good, but you can see that there are some hard edges that are not natural.
8- Doesn't have any camera meta-data. (he "forgot" to fake that also)

and a few other minor things... but yeah, it's a very good 3D work!:)

if you want to do a little test with your abilities to tell if it's cg or not:
    http://area.autodesk.com/fakeorfoto/challenge

a little too easy though... ;)

Sorry, this idea is horrible. People are going to downrate posts because they disagree with someone's opinion, not because it's a bad post.

I can easily see the fanboys downrating anyone who mentions Microsoft, Android or any of Apple's competitors in a positive light.

So much for thinking outside of the box. Apparently it's gotten so bad that they give boxes to the winners.

Not overly excited about the keynote.

I got a 17" MBP 2.6GHz back in December, and it's fine for Logic Pro 8 and Lightwave 3D on the move.

I don't see how I would justify a $1799 thin laptop that's missing some necessary ports (FireWire 400/800, Ethernet (yes, I know there's a $29 adapter doodad)). Besides, how much will it cost in the UK? (The internet is being too slow to check...)

As Steve Jobs said when he announced the iPhone in the UK, "It costs more to do business over here". Yes, which is why the $20 iPod touch apps update is 12.99 over here, instead of 10.20 which is what the exchange rate demands. Even with some made up tax, it's another example of "rip-off Britain".

why are you on macrumors.....you have something to do with Android to....practice what you...ah you know the rest

Yes and this story has little to do with iOS. It has nothing to do with openness vs Close. It is just something to mislead people. Read the article and look at all the comments.

The packaging has been getting uglier with every release after Panther. OK, I consider none of them ugly, just a bit less beautiful

This will be the first time ever, regular people will stop waiting for their computer to work, even when using multiple applications.

Umm - sorry to destroy your illusion here, but Amiga made that possible already in 1985! This was thanks to true preemptive multitasking (while Classic MacOS sported cooperative multitasking only, up to OS9). No matter how big the workload and with several applications open at the same time an Amiga would react instantly to any user action!

Even today a 50MHz Amiga with 128Mb of Ram often feels a lot more responsive than a 2.000+MHz beast with 1GB of Ram in a "modern" computer. Granted - todays GUIs are more complex as well, but still...

So with the new era of multi-core machines the "rest of the (home)computerworld" will finally have come on par with what Amiga could offer more than 20 years ago already!

    Regards
    Neodym

A lot of these companies also have Agreements with the Manufacturers on when, how, and what they can sell. Maybe Apple has told them to run this promotion to help draw not only sales but accessories sales or like I said above maybe its a promo like the Back to School promo.

I dunno......it doesn't seem like Apple is having a hard time selling their iPad2 accessories, especially the Smart Cover. I don't see why Apple would ask BB to run a promotion in order to sell 3rd party accessories.

i prefer the number 9 to be honest :p 9ghz! phoar!

what temps are they running at? had you considered water cooling?

i was running around 90C. i've now taken it down to just 3.9 ghz. it's still up close to around 85C. i really don't feel like messing with water cooling on this system. maybe next time

It's hard to believe that you guys are making this effort to not "spoil".

Yeah, it is kind of wierd, considering this is MacRumours, where mostly everyone comes to find out about Apple stuff before it is actually announced

i guess everyone wants a piece of the pie

wouldn't be surprised to see competitors are going after it

the law of big number suggests that a small fraction of the number can lead to a big sales. that is my opinion

Theres little point in putting flash memory in a consumer-grade notebook.

The expense is enormous (retail: 32GB SSD $250, 64GB SSD $1500 vs. $150 for a 2.5″ 250GB SATA hard drive)

Power savings dont increase runtime significantly, since other systems use far more power than the hard drive.

The big advantage to SSD is shock resistance: great for a Toughbook, but pointless in a MacBook.
